Moving the Bookmark

There are several ways to change the bookmarked tweet.

  1. The bookmark button - when a tweet is selected, a button panel appears in the bottom right.  The leftmost button is the bookmark button.  Clicking it will bookmark the currently selected tweet.  Clicking it a second time will remove the bookmark all together, and no tweets will be marked as unread until a new bookmark is set.  ⇧⌘B will also bookmark the current tweet.

  2. Bookmark Newest Toolbar Button - Clicking this button will set the bookmark at the newest tweet which will mark all tweets as read.  To bookmark the newest tweet from the keyboard use ⌘-B.

  3. Spacebar - Once you have a tweet selected, hitting spacebar will automatically select and bookmark the next newest tweet.  Using spacebar is an efficient way to work through a large group of unread tweets.  You can also use the return key to reply to the selected tweet.

Removing the Bookmark

If you would rather not use the bookmarking system, unbookmark the currently bookmarked tweet.  To disable bookmarking for subsequent launches, open the Syrinx preferences and uncheck the Enable bookmark on launch checkbox.  For future Syrinx launches no bookmark will be set and therefore no tweets will be marked as unread.

Overview

The bookmark is how you keep track of unread tweets.  Just like when reading a book, you use one bookmark to keep track of your spot.  Tweets below the bookmark have already been read, tweets after the bookmark are unread.  These unread tweets will be colored differently, making them stand out.  The color for bookmarked tweets is customizable.

Bookmarked Tweets

By default, the bookmark will set itself automatically at the newest tweet once the program has launched.  You will notice that the within the button panel for the newest tweet, the bookmark button is colored blue. This indicates that this tweet is bookmarked.  To quickly jump to the currently bookmarked tweet use ⌘-2, or select Go to Bookmark from the Tweets menu.  The number of bookmarked tweets is indicated by a red badge on the dock icon as well as in the title bar of the application.
